Tips & Trics

Repairing your machine yourselves can be very fun and it is obviously a considerable saving. If you want to repair itself a number of things are very important: - Be careful and use common sense: we work with power (220 volts !!!) and heat (+ 100 degrees !!!) - Make sure the machine has cooled down and remove the power plug from the socket - Good tools are very important, good appropriate wrenches and screwdrivers prevent a lot of damage! - If you are unsure of your case, stop and bring the machine to a professional for help. - D.R. Trading is not responsible for any damage that arises during the own repair of your machine. We have tried to sort the parts much as possibleby brand, but there are also a number of collections of general parts. If you can not find something or do you not know, mail me your question. QUICK MILL, ASCASO, E61 INFUSER, VIBIEMME, ECM, ROCKET, LA PICCOLA - Cleaning: Cleaning your espresso machine is perhaps the most important of your entire coffee experience! Old coffee grounds give a bad taste to freshly brewed espresso. The life of your machine is reduced by the impairment of coffee to the materials of your machine. Machines with a three-way valve (Rancilio, Ascaso Professional and others) or E61 brew groups should be regularly back flushes, see here for the E61 instructions. Always consult the instructions of your espresso machine or see our specific instructions per machine. - Descaling: Descaling the machine has to be done occasionally. The frequency depends on the type of heating source (boiler, heat exchanger or thermo block) and the hardness of the water in your area. For most machines, 1 or 2 times per year is sufficient. Use a descelare which is especially designed for espresso machines, no vinegar. Look at the description on the package for a specified instructions. The use of a lime filter on the suction hose is recommended. Exchange this every 6 months, if the water is very hard replacement shoud be done earlier. Always consult the instructions of your espresso machine or see our specific instructions per machine. - Temperature: The correct temperature of the brewing unit is very important for your espresso. One way to see if your machine has the right temperature is to take a look at the color of the crema (espresso coffee beans, the grinding right and dosage!) If the crema is too light in color, the temperature is too low. The crema is very dark or when it even disappears, the machine is too hot. Measuring the temperature with a thermometer gives normally a different outcome and will be much lower than the real temperature. This is not a way that we use to test the temperature. The way in which water comes out of the brewing unit (without filter holder) is is a good visual way to see if the temperature is in the right direction. The first water must come together with some steam / vapor, the first water should be between 90 and 100 degrees. The steam should decrease rapidly. For machines with a heat exchanger one can adjust the the pressure up or down (see E61 instruction). Lime can provide a low temperature. For machines regulating the temperature with thermostant one can play with many different temperatures. - Coffee grinders: Coffee grinders should be cleaned every 6 months, do so by removing the grinder apart. For most grinders one can turn the upper part out. Clean everything with a brush and vacuum cleaner. (Beware of loose parts) Clean the bean container with hot water. Grinding Discs have a long lifetime, with proper maintenance. You can feel with a finger if there are no burrs are on the disks. Stones and other debris through the coffee can damage the discs. Always consult the instructions of your grinder! - Pipe threads: In espresso machines the factories make use of gas thread, this special thread with the first idea what crazy dimensions. Always turn threaded gas connections fixed with a Teflon tape / gas tape or a nut-lock to prevent leakage. Alway clean the thread! Descaling

Descaling the machine should of course be done every now and then. The way to carry out this depends on the type of heating source (boiler, heat exchanger or thermoblock) and the hardness of the water in your place of residence. For most machines, once or twice a year is sufficient. Use a product specifically made for espresso machines, not cleaning vinegar. See the description per heating source for specified instructions. The use of a limescale filter/softener on the suction hose is recommended. Change it once every 3 months, more often if the water is very hard where you live. Always consult the instructions for your espresso machine or view our specific instructions per machine. - DESCALING AN ESPRESSO MACHINE WITH THERMOBLOCKMachines such as QuickMill, La Piccola and Ascaso are equipped with a thermoblock. This is a technique that ensures that there is very little limescale deposits. Nevertheless, a thermoblock should also be descaled once or twice a year. Depending on the hardness of the water in your municipality and how often you steam with the machine. Descaling more often makes the pipes rough and makes it easier for lime to adhere to the pipe of the thermoblock. Use a liquid descaling agent for a thermoblock. 1. Fill the water reservoir with 250 ml of water and add 250 ml of Bio De-Scale (1:1). 2. Allow the espresso machine to reach operating temperature 3. Allow half of the contents of the water reservoir to flow through. 4. Allow the espresso machine to warm up again and run the machine briefly a few times (10 seconds on, 10 seconds off). 5. Repeat step 3 and if your espresso machine is equipped with a steam pipe, you could run the descaler through the steam pipe in this step. 6. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with clean water. 7. Run a large amount of water (at least 250ml) until the smell of the descaler has completely disappeared.In the video below we show you how to descale your QuickMill: - DESCALING AN ESPRESSO MACHINE WITH A SINGLE BOILERMachines such as Rancilio Silvia, Gaggia, Ascaso, Isomac, Vibiemme, Lelit and others are equipped with a so-called single boiler. With these machines, you must heat the boiler after making coffee to be able to steam. For this heating source we recommend descaling the boiler once or twice with a powder descaler, we use Scale Clean Plus or Calcinet for this. Dissolve 1 or 2 tablespoons per liter in the water tank and let the machine run so that the boiler is filled with the solution. Let it stand for +/- 1 hour and rinse occasionally and also use the steam tap a few times. Then rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with clean water. After this, you must rinse the machine very thoroughly through the brewing group until the taste/odor of the descaler has completely disappeared. - DESCALING AN ESPRESSO MACHINE WITH A HEAT EXCHANGER / HX BOILERMost machines with an E61 group are equipped with a heat exchanger. With these machines you can steam and brew coffee at the same time, but you cannot adjust the temperature of the coffee and steam independently of each other. For this heating source, we recommend descaling the boiler once or twice a year with a powder descaler. We use Scale Clean Plus or Calcinet for this purpose. Dissolve 1 or 2 tablespoons per liter in the water tank. The heat exchanger boiler consists of 2 compartments (coffee and steam/tea), both of which need to be descaled. In the video below we show you how to descale a heat exchanger: If your machine is connected to the water mains, you can switch the machine to the internal tank, or if that is not possible, disconnect the hose from the water mains and put it in a bucket with descaler. - DESCALING AN ESPRESSO MACHINE WITH A DUAL BOILERThe luxury machines with an E61 group are equipped with 2 boilers. With these machines you can steam and brew coffee at the same time and also adjust the temperature of the coffee and steam independently of each other. We also recommend descaling the boilers with a powder descaler for this heating source once or twice a year; we use Scale Clean Plus or Calcinet for this purpose. Dissolve 1 or 2 tablespoons per liter in the water tank. These machines therefore have 2 boilers that need to be descaled. - For the coffee boiler, follow the instructions for the single boiler. - For the steam/tea boiler, follow the instructions for the heat exchanger. If your machine is connected to the water mains, you can switch the machine to the internal tank, or if that is not possible, disconnect the hose from the water mains and put it in a bucket with descaler.

Temperature and heating elements

Temperature:The correct temperature of the brew group is of utmost importance for your espresso. For an espresso, this should generally be between 88 and 94 degrees during extraction. A darker roast looks better at a lower temperature, the lighter roasts require slightly higher temperatures. Correctly measuring the temperature in the group is very difficult with most espresso machines. Measuring the water that comes out with a thermometer does not give a correct measurement, because the flow is much too high to simulate making an espresso. This method of measuring always comes out too low because the group cools down too quickly. Without specialist measuring equipment you can see a lot from the crema or the effluent of the water: - Crema: you can tell whether the machine has the right temperature by the color of the crema (provided espresso coffee, the correct grinding degree and dosage!) If the crema is too light in color, then the temperature is too low. If the crema becomes very dark or even disappears, the machine is overheating. - Water outflow: the way water flows out of the brew group (without filter drag!)! is a good visual way to see if the temperature is heading in the right direction. The first water must come with some steam/vapor, the first water must be between 90 and 100 degrees. This steam should decrease quickly. Adjust temperature: On machines with a heat exchanger, the pressure can be increased or decreased with the pressure switch or the PID (see E61 tips and tricks). Lime can cause the temperature to be too low. Machines with thermostats offer many different temperatures, which is fun to play with. Heating element:Your espresso machine contains a heating element to heat the water. Two main groups can be distinguished between the heating elements, thermoblocks and immersion elements. Machines such as QuickMill and La Piccola have a thermoblock, this form of heating rarely causes problems, so we will ignore it further. However, most machines have a so-called immersion element (further called a heating element on our site). This element sits directly in the water in the boiler and must always be completely submerged. Because these elements are always under water, they suffer quite a bit from lime and other minerals in the water and can therefore sometimes break. This usually indicates an earth leakage circuit, when the copper sheath of the element no longer insulates sufficiently. The element can also burn out internally, causing the machine to simply no longer heat up. In the video below we explain how you can measure this: Dismantling the heating element: Dismantling a heating element is best done with a long socket on an impact or air wrench. Never apply too much force with, for example, a long ratchet, because then the pipework will bend. Never place the boiler in a vice as it will dent. If in doubt or if you do not have the right tools, we recommend that you take the machine to a professional for repair. Installing a new heating element: Installing the heating element is also best done using a long socket on an impact or air wrench. Always seal the thread of the element with Loxeal or PTFE tape to prevent leakage, the Teflon gasket does not always seal tightly enough. Connecting a new heating element: If you install a new element in your boiler, it is important to take into account that it is an immersion element, so it must be completely submerged before voltage is applied! Regardless of the brand, make sure you fill the boiler completely before connecting the element wires. So always leave 1 or 2 poles of the element loose. Depending on the type of boiler, follow the following procedure: - Espresso machines with heat exchanger (HX): First check whether the machine fills itself, these machines have a control box that regulates the water level in the boiler. Does your machine not fill itself automatically? Then the boiler probe or the control box is defective and that is also the cause of the defective element. See tips and tricks for the E61 machine for further steps. - Espresso machines with a single boiler (Vibiemme Domobar Standard, Rancilio, etc.): By turning on the coffee pump and letting it pump until water comes out of the group, you can be sure that the boiler is completely filled. In these machines, the element often breaks down due to long periods of steaming. Always refill the boiler after steaming in the same way as described above. - Dual boiler machines: If you replace the element of the coffee boiler with a dual boiler, also follow the working method of the continuous boiler. For the steam/service boiler, follow the method of the heat exchanger. The element must first be completely submerged in the water before it can heat up, otherwise it will burn out immediately. If you are sure that the boiler is full, remove the plug from the socket and only then connect the wires of the element.

Quick Mill Tips and Trucs

- Names: All these different names: QuickMill, Poccino, La Messoni, Omre, yes, they are all machines from the QuickMill factory, we collected them under the name Quickmill. The components are also universal. QuickMill is one of the best espressomachines, if you maintain them well they can last for decades! - Exploded View- Steam pipe: The steam pipe / tap is the only vulnerable point of the QM and can leak while making coffee. The main reason for this is a dirty brew heas, which causes it to get clogged and the water will leak through the steam tap as the weakest point. In our webshop the rings are available to overhaul the tap, see this set. It is a precise job and use heat-resistant grease for the o-rings. Note that if the inside is worn out, the tap will leak again quickly. Replacement of the steam valve is then the best solution. Old steam cranes where the O-ring is not around the spindle can no longer be repaired, replacing for a new one is necessary. Do you never steam? Then a replacement fitting can also be placed: replacement fitting. This replaces the entire steam pipe. - Broken group thread: This may happe nif the thread is tightened too tight or when the group head has not been cleaned for a long time. The remaining piece can be removed and we have special tools to do this: please bring in your machine. (You can do it yourselves with a left-handed wire tab. Beware of cheap taps, they break easily and then it's no longer possible to do anything) - The disc is broken or can not be removed: If your QM has not been cleaned for a long time, the disc may remain stuck. By removing the piston ring, place a flat screwdriver underneath the adapter disc and try to loosen it. In most cases they break in the middle: The middle part of the disc stays stuck in the brew head, a sign that you need to clean your QM more often! Fortunately, we can repair this in most cases and we have special tools for this: bring in your machine. (You can try it yourself with a small sharp chisel and bash the remaining part into two pieces. Be very careful not to damage the brew head!) - Converting to ground coffee: A QM for ESE servings / pods / pads (eg 810 or 3010) can be converted to be suitable for ground coffee. See this special conversion kit. Note that, unlike ESE servings, there is a lot more cleaning! How do you recognize a converted 810? The 810 filter carrier has only 2 lips/ears on the filter holder, the 820 has 3 lips. - How to sse ESE Servings in your QM for lground coffee: A QM for ground coffee (eg 820, 835, 2820 or 3000/3035) can also be used for ESE servings. To do this, use the new type of flat group thread and the special filter basker for ESE servings. No further adjustments have to be done, isn;t that easy! - The machine does not warm up. Almost always the coffee thermostat is broken, but it is easy to replace. Replace also always the safety thermostat as it only works once. The coffee thermostat is located on the left of the thermoblock ("9 hour") and can be screwed out. There are 100 and 105 degree thermostats available. Sometimes the difference can be read clearly on the thermostaat. Otherwise, the color of the thermoblock leads to the right thermostat, a shiny / silver thermoblock needs 100 degrees, a dobble gray thermoblock (older models) works at 105 degrees. - Filters stuck in the brew head come off with a blow: Probably the piston ring or the retainers and springs are worn , or in the case of a new ring you can wipe it with a little vaseline. In case of worn retainer: alway replace all three of them, otherwise the filter basket will be pushed out slantwise. - Water is pumped back into the reservoir immediately: the solenoid valve coil will be broken

E61 Brew group

How to descale your E61 machine: This depends on the type of boiler; There are three different types: a single system, a single boiler with heat exchanger (HX, Heat Exchanger) or a double boiler. For the single boiler you only need to descale it. When your machine has an HX boiler you need to descale the both coffee and the tea / steam section separately (see below). In double boiler, both boilers must be decaled. (How to descaling can also be found on in the manual of your machine, here you can also find which type of boiler you have) Descaling the HX Boiler: Our experience is that a professional descaling powder will work best for the E61 brewing and boiler. First, make sure the boiler is empty. Do this through warming up the machine completely and then switch off the machine. Open the water tap and the hot water will be forced out of the machine. Now the boiler is empty Dissolve the powder in lukewarm water in the ratio as described on the packagin, fill the reservoir with this sollution. Turn on the machine and it will automatically fill the boiler. If the boiler is full, then let the water run through the brew group so here also comes water with descaling. Then let the machine heat up and turn it off and let stand for 3 hours. Rinse the reservoir, switch on the machine after 3 hours, and let the machine heat up. Rinse the brew group by pumping clean water though . If the boiler is at the right temperature, turn off the machine and let all the hot water drain out via the water tap. Repeat this until the water no longer smells / tastes (rinse average 3x). Lubricating the E61 brew group: Use heat resistance grease to lubricate the rubbers in the lever rod of the brewing group and the spindle of the steam / water tap. Ordinary Vaseline/grease will burn / melt away. We have a special portion pack. Thickness of the group ring / piston ring. The thickness of the rings group you need depends on the wear and tear off your machine. By default, there is a 8mm ring in the group, as the group / filterholder becomes worn there may be needed a thicker ring in the group so that the filterholder which may be far less moved to the right. Also there can be added a paper shim of 0.5 mm. A handy solution, also to see if it makes any difference. Right temperature of the brewing group: The correct temperature of the brewing unit is of paramount importance to your espresso. One way to see if your group has the right temperature is to take a look at the color of the crema (only with espresso at the right grinding and dosage!) If the crema too light in color, the temperature is too low. If the crema is very dark or even disappears, the machine is too hot. If the machine is too cold? The pressure in the boiler could then be raised. In a HX machine you can screw the pressure up on the adjustable pressure switch. Please note that when you rise the pressure to much the overpressure protection will intervine and will issue steam! Look carefully at the manometer of your machine, do not go into the red. Lime can also sometimes be the cause, descale your espresso machine. If the machine is too hot? There may be a number of causes. The pressure of the boiler (and thus the temperature) may be too high, screw the pressure on the pressure switch down. If the pressure is too low but the brew group is too hot, the thermal heating in the brew group can reduced by putting in a yet in the upper pipe from the boiler to the brew group. The brew group can also be too hot when the upper valve does not close properly. In this case there leaks a little steam from brew group when the machine is at operating temperature. Another feature of a broken upper valve is that it takes a while before water comes out of the group if the group is run. Replace the entire valve or valve rubber.

Ascaso Tips and Trucs

Maintenance of your Ascaso: Disassemble the shower every 2 weeks and clean it. Clean the edge around the adapter plate and the piston ring with a cleaning brush. When the machine begins to leak along the filter holder, the piston ring must be replaced. To do this, remove the adapter plate and clean it thoroughly. Also replace the O-ring adapter plate and possibly damaged bolts. We have a complete revision kit availble. (please check if your Ascaso has a boiler of thermoblock) Descaling should be done at least every six months, depending on the quality of the water. - Year of construction of your Ascaso: Ascaso has been innovating in recent years, and the machines are getting better technically. If you want to order parts from the webshop, please check the year of your Ascaso. With the technical improvements, some parts have also changed. We have indicated the years of construction at the parts where necessary. (please check if your Ascaso has a boiler of thermoblock) We devided the machine in a couple of catagories: Dream, Steel, Arc and Basic (ground coffee) - Series 1 and Series 2 (UP) 9/2012 (thermoblock)Dream, Steel, Arc and Basic ESE servings / Pods with fixed filterholder. Steel PRO (FESSIONAL) (Boiler) - Series 1 6/2009 - My Ascaso is not warming up: This can have 2 causes, either the thermostat and the safety thermostat are broken or the heating element of the boiler is broken. Both can be tested with a multimeter. The resistance of both the safety thermostat and the element should both be almost zero. If the safety thermostat is broken, always replace the coffee thermostat, which is defective, so the safety thermostat has been broken. If the heating element is broken, the top of the boiler should be replaced in its entirety. Always disassemble the boiler so that you do not break the boiler level pipe. Thermostats and connections can be fixed with telfon tape or Loxeal. Always install a new boiler seal to prevent leakage! - Temperature: The right temperature of the brew heas is in important paramount for your espresso. The best way to see if your Ascaso has the right temperature is to check the color of the crema (Provided that you use espresso coffee at the correct grind and dosage!) If the crema becomes too light, the temperature is too low. If the crema becomes very dark or even disappears, the machine becomes too hot. Temperature measurement with a thermometer usually results in a different outcome and usually much lower (there is a lot of heat loss in the outflow and in the cup. This is not the best way to test the temperature) The way water from the set-up group (without filter carrier) is also a good visual way to see if the temperature is in the right direction. The first water must have some steam / vapor, the first water must be between 90 and 100 degrees. The steam must decrease rapidly. If your Ascaso has a deviating temperature then the coffee thermostat can be worn, replacing is easy. Always ensure that the filter holder is loosely placed in the machine so that it also has the correct temperature. - My Ascaso keeps water dripping after making coffee: If water from the brew head continues to drop, replace the spring and valve, in most cases this is the right solution. Also clean the seat in the boiler where the valve is closed. The machine may also get too hot, then replace the coffee thermostat. - My Ascaso is leaking water through the steam pipe while making coffee: The spindle of the steam tap will be worn. Unfortunately, the spindles of older Ascaso machines are no longer in production. The solution is to replace the complete steam tap for a new type. This model is much better!. When ordering this complete steam tap, you will also receive a hose and fitting to connect the new steam tap. With older Ascasos, new the steam tap may not fit directly into the housing; cut out the inner plate slightly. - The screws of the adapter plate are stuck: A correct fitting crosshead screwdriver is the most important. Should the heads be broken down, we have special tools for this purpose: please bring in your machine for repair. (It can be done with a left-handed wire tab. Take care of cheap tabs, they break easily and afterwards it is no longer possible to do anything, be careful not to drill the head too, be careful to not drill too deep!) Alway replace damaged screws, otherwise the problem will be back next time! - I have an Ascaso Steel PROF (ESSIONAL): Please notice that there are different types of Ascaso Steel:, there are also Steel Prof series in addition to the standard Steel machines. (Eg UNO PROF and DUO PROF, see type of image on the machine). These machines have a larger boiler and a larger diameter of the brew head. The same set / boiler is used in the Ascaso BAR.

Faema E61

After WO2 Italy get rid of the fascism and the many producers of espresso machine came back to life. In 1945 FAEMA was founded in Milan. (Fabbrica Apparecchiature Elettromeccaniche e Affini) Throughout Italy there was a real race who could develop the best system to make the best coffee. The first machines forced water through grounded coffee with steam pressurized water, but these machine had many disadvantages. Later they develloped lever machines, which we still see in the marker. With the help of a lever, a spring and a piston, hot water from the boiler could be brought under high pressure through ground coffee. Here lies the origin of the espresso. Also, the current contents of an espresso is partly determined by this system. With human strength, after all, only a limited amount of water could be brought to a pressure of 9 bar. Faema also made such lever machines, the Urania and the President are the best known. In 1961 Faema came with the revolution in the field of espresso machines: Model E61 was introduced. The model was derived from the Urania, the President has even the same model. The E61 had some very distinctive devellopements: • The use of a high-pressure electronic pump to force the water at 9 bar pressure through the coffee. • Heat exchangers in the boiler so the brew groups can kept at a constant temperature by the thermal effect of water. • The brew group with 3 operation positions which made it also possible to have pre-infusion. (Later even called the E61 brewing unit). The group is controlled by a control Eclipse and is developed in 1961, hence the name E61. The Faema E61 has been the revolution in the field of professional espresso machines and in most modern espresso machines this group is still used. All competitors took over the use of a pump and heat exchangers quickly after the introduction of the E61. In the years '60 -'70 it was clearly that Faema had won the race in the first place. After several patents went, it became difficult for Faema to keep its posisition as market leader. In the '80 we could see the first other machines with an E61 brew group. Faema is still making espresso machines (as part of the Cimbali group), but is no longer the market leader. At the beginning of the 21st century Faema has once again tried to duplicate the success of the E61 with the introduction of the Feama E61 Legend. A machine with the same design and approximately the same technique. Of course there are added the necessary modern conveniences. In 2016, an updated version of the Legend is back on the market to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the model. Today, the original Faema machines are just as popular as in the 60s of the 20th century. We often get question of customers that want to buy an E61, so what is inportant: 1.Often E61 Legends are sold as original E61's. The Legend is easily recognizable in the front punched Faema logo. In the '60s there were no machines with programmed dosing of course. 2.The metal body work has to be in good condition. Many parts of the E61 are still in prodcution, but most parts of the bodywork are no longer available. If you send one part out for chroming you will to send out the complete bodywork for chroming to obtain uniform housing. Grinding, chroming and polishing is relatively expensive. 3. Many parts are still in production (thanks to the Legend and competitors) makes service and maintenance of this machine possible. 4.Is the machine being overhault? Who has done this and when. In the Netherlands we have only a few specialists. Revision by a hobbyist reduces the value. It should also be a constructed revision from a powder coated frame, otherwise rust will reappear. 5. Has the machine been out of action for quite a long time? In this case the machine can be dismantled actually the best completely. 6. The machine works fine on 230 volts (even a third group machine) Connect the machine always to mains, a rotary pump, after all, does not draw water! 7. It is difficult to give advice for the best price. 8. Are you planning to use the machine professionally? Please installian automatic boiler filling in order to prevent the heating element from boil dry. 9. Let you machine serviced annually by an expert and replace the purifier on time. Nice to know: • The number of stars on the back plate would stand for the number of years it was produced after 1961. • The first series brew groups did not hace an Allen bolt at the front. La Piccola

CLEANING LA PICCOLA:The brewing group and the filter holder of the machine must be cleaned regularly to maintain the optimal taste of the coffee. The filter holder can be removed by loosening the Allen screw under the filter holder. With some models this is a bit more difficult, as an Allen key with a ball head is required. The strainer can be removed from the filter holder. Clean both with the stainless steel pan sponge. The spout can be cleaned with the brush (always wet the brush first). The brew head (B) can be cleaned with a toothbrush or stainless steel pan sponge. The filter (F) can be removed for cleaning. The piston ring in the scalding head is subject to wear and can be replaced. The scalding head can also be adjusted in height by turning it. Direction 1 adjusts the scalding head more tightly on the filter holder, direction 2 less tightly. With an ESE serving, the Piccola makes a beautiful creamy espresso of about 25cc in 25 seconds. If you want a larger espresso, you can install a different sieve or use a Lungo serving, more about this on the page about ESE servings. Of course, your Piccola may slow down over time, this may have various causes: - Scaling, descale the machine with our liquid descaling agent - Contamination, clean the machine as described above - Wear of the pump, the pump can be replaced. - Temperature deviation, the thermostat can be replaced.Leakage thermoblock: The La Piccola machines have a thermoblock (35) containing a spiral (24) along which the water is heated. This spiral is mounted with 2 o-rings (23) which will eventually leak. If this is the case, the machine will leak on the left side, quick repair will prevent further damage. Remove the bolt with washer (22) and install an M5 or M6 bolt in the spiral and try to pull the spiral out, it helps to descale the machine first. If the spiral is very stuck, it is best to bring the machine to us for repair. We have special assistance from La Piccola for this purpose. Always install the new rings with some heat-resistant grease so that they are not damaged when replacing the spiral. Vibiemme Tips & Tricks

Vibiemme has been making the machines from the Domobar series for many years, of which the Domobar Standard is by far the best-selling model. This machine will last 20 years! Provided it is properly maintained, but occasionally the Domobar needs thorough maintenance. On this page we give you some tips and tricks on how to thoroughly overhaul and possibly upgrade the Domobar. When ordering parts, pay attention to which Domobar you have, the Standard has a single boiler and must first be heated through in order to steam. The Junior and Super have a heat exchanger or Dual Boiler and have a tap for tea water. - Broken heating element:The heating element of the Domobar Standard sometimes burns out, this may be due to wear or limescale attack. Another common reason is that the element boils dry by steaming for too long and not refilling the boiler afterwards. To remove the element, the entire boiler must be removed from the machine. To loosen the couplings, use well-fitting, good-quality open-end wrenches so that the brass nuts are not damaged. The element must be removed with a 30mm socket (this is easiest with an air wrench). Once everything has been dismantled, we recommend immersing everything in a bucket with Calcinet descaling agent and then reassembling everything. Leave 1 pole of the element loose and only connect it after the boiler has been completely filled with water to prevent it from boiling dry! (If you have completely removed the boiler, consider insulating it) The Junior and Super have different elements, before ordering it is good to check which version you have so that you can order the correct one. Here too, it is better not to connect 1 pole of the element first so that the boiler can fill first (especially with the Junior 2B coffee boiler). - Temperature adjustment:The Domobar Standard and the Junior 2B are equipped with an adjustable thermostat, until 2012 this was in a thermostat tube, since 2012 the probe has been directly in the water. Over time, the thermostat tube tends to oxidize and leak, so it must be replaced. Often the probe no longer comes out and the thermostat also needs to be replaced. Adjusting the thermostat requires some patience and adjust it in very small steps. After each adjustment, wait at least 5 minutes to check whether the temperature is correct. The old thermostat with tube can be replaced by the new version that sits directly in the water, which requires a new connection. - Group overhaul:The E61 group from Vibiemme is largely the same as the modern E61 group (see the tips and tricks of the E61 brewing group) It is recommended to purchase the specific VBM overhaul set, all parts of which are suitable for the VBM group. There are a number of things different with VBM: The trumpet can sometimes become completely stuck with chalk. Loosen the 2 M6 Allen screws and then use a ring spanner 22 and place it on the cap of the trumpet. Now try to move the entire trumpet clockwise a bit. If this does not work, you can also tap a few taps to the left and right in the rear bolt hole with a punch pin. When reassembling, the rear M6 hexagon socket screw of the trumpet must be provided with a little Loxeal. The trumpet is fitted with a Teflon ring at the bottom of the group housing. The collector of the controls is also attached to the group with 2 Allen screws. In this video we show you the overhaul of a VBM group: - Steam tap:The spindle of the steam tap of the Domobar Standard is sometimes broken and no longer closes properly and the steam pipe will drip while making coffee or even while heating up. The spindle or entire steam valve must then be replaced. If the spindle is still intact, you can replace the valve (carefully press it in the vice in the spindle) and the o-rings. (mount the spindle with a little heat-resistant grease) The taps of the Junior and Super are the same and work in the same way as described above for the Domobar Standard. - Over pressure valve (OPV):The Domobar series is equipped with an OPV that ensures that the pump pressure is 9 bar. Over time, both the pump and the OPV will become worn and can be easily replaced. The OPV can be adjusted by placing a blind filter in the group and reading the pressure on the manometer or by placing a filter holder with a manometer in the group. - Upgrades for VBM Domobar:Over the years we have come up with a number of adjustments that improve the Domobar or make it more beautiful. We would of course be happy to share these adjustments with you! - Boiler insulation, which is easy to install when the boiler is out and makes a significant difference in power consumption and the machine also reaches temperature faster! - Walnut accessories: A walnut handle and E61 lever give the machine a completely different look! Unfortunately, a walnut knob cannot be fitted to steam taps without adjustment. The 6x6 walnut knob can be placed on the spindle, but the VBM screw is too short. This is not a standard thread, in order to insert another screw you must cut the thread with an M4 thread tap. Then the button can be placed on it.- Steam tap upgrade: The existing steam pipe of the Domobar has the disadvantage that it can only be moved up and down. We install a compact steam tap with a 1/4 nut and provide it with a universal steam pipe, spring adapter and Teflon ring. You can carefully bend the pipe between the boiler and the tap slightly. We provide the hole that remains with a green light that we connect to the empty pole on the thermostat, so that it lights up green when the boiler is up to temperature. The knob of the Vibiemme Replica or a walnut handle can be mounted on the heating tap. This can be secured with an M6 nut. Vibiemme Mercury and ReplicaThe Vibiemme Mercury and Replica are robust catering machines that can last for many years. The difference between the two machines is in the housing and the steam taps, other than that many parts are the same. The machines with semi-automatic groups have an adjustable dosage, which you can set yourself as desired. This is very easy: - Fill the filter holder with version coffee - Turn the filter holder into the group and place the desired cups under the filter holder - Press the right button (star/rinse) until the light on the keypad flashes - Now quickly press the button you want to set, the machine will now pump - Press the button again when the dosage is as desired - Wait until the light on the keypad stops flashing before using the machine Setting only involves coffee in the portafilter and most machines copy the dosage from the left to right group, so set it on the left. If there is a difference, you can also set the right group after setting the left group.

DB Caffè

Specially blended coffee in honor of Dante Belardinelli, the most famous roaster in Florence. In his hometown called "il re del caffe" ("the coffee king"). Unlike the Jolly Caffè Crema and Illy Caffé, DB's has a percentage of Robusta beans. The coffee has therefore a little spicier taste and gets a full thick crema layer. The blend consists of 70% Arabica beans (+/- 7 different species) and in 30% Robusta coffee beans are added. Robusta are native to Indonesia and Brazil. The beans are roasted separately by type, and then blended in order to obtain a balanced blend. The coffee is by the addition of Robusta, next to espresso preparation also ideal to prepare a good coffee in a normal fully automatic machine. The full intense flavor also gives in the cappuccino a pleasant presence.

In addition to selling espresso machines and parts, we have our own workshop. We have been doing repairs and maintenance on the better espresso machines for more than 30 years. Repairing is not an end in itself and we only offer this as a service for QuickMill espresso machines and a limited number of other machines that we sell new. In order to guarantee the workload, waiting times and quality in our workshop, we have had to implement a number of important changes in 2023. That is why we still accept limited machines for repairs and unfortunately we no longer accept 'new patients', so we can also keep the turnaround time for repairs for our regular customers short. Most parts are for model Sin 035 9303/11 (before 2015) and the newest Gaggia Classic Pro models. Please note, if you have a newer Gaggia (from 2014) you will have a different brewing group with different parts. Also recognizable by the following: Model Sin035U (Romania) and Model 9403/11 (Romania) Also recognizable by: - Stainless steel boiler - Filter holder with plastic spout (3/8 ”thread) - NO solenoid valve (three way valve) - Switches off automatically when the machine is not used for 9 minutes. The QuickMill 4005 has both a boiler for the coffee and a thermoblock for the steam. The boiler is the same as the Ascaso Steel Pro, the thermoblock comes from Quik itself. A common problem is that the steam output is not enough and the steam becomes watery very quickly. An adjustment to the electrical diagram must then be made, we advise you to bring in the machine for this.
